LEGION COLLEGE – May 30 – June 1, 2008 – Holiday Hotel, Macon, GA

The college is available to anyone who wishes to attend; however, if you are a Post, District or Department officer, you are strongly encouraged to attend.  This is an excellent tool for learning more about The American Legion, and you will receive valuable information for making your job much easier during the next Legion year.  Additional information on the College is included in this mailing.

POST DATA FORMS – Were due April 15th.  Attached is a listing of those Posts that did not return their Post Data form.  If the form has not been received in Department Headquarters, we are assuming there were no changes, and we will report NO CHANGES to National Headquarters.

BOYS STATE – 2008 – As of this mailing we have 229 delegates paid.  Please note the District information attached.  Some Districts are simply not working this LEGION PROGRAM.  It is not too late.  If you need help, contact your District Commander or call Department Headquarters.  Every Post is this Department should send at least one student to Boys State.  Commander Barnett had asked for 400+ delegates to the 2008 program, and if your Post is not participating, he will be asking WHY NOT!

REPORTS – All forms for reporting this year’s programs are in the hands of the Post Commanders or Adjutants.  PLEASE report your activities so Georgia can look good with the National Organization, and, your Post might win an award.  Please note each form has a deadline date to be returned to Department Headquarters.

DEPARTMENT CONVENTION – June 26-29, 2008 at the Augusta Marriott Hotel in Augusta, GA.   The DEC will meet on Thursday night, June 26, 2008 at 7:00 PM.  Convention will get underway on Friday morning, June 27th at 8:30 AM.

It is still not too late to make reservations.  The Marriott is sold out, but there are still rooms available at the Quality Inn and the Sleep Inn.  The housing, registration, and banquet forms are all included with this mailing.  Please MAKE BANQUET RESERVATIONS ASAP.  The hotel will need a final count by Wednesday, June 25th.  Remember everyone must register, $15.00 prior to June 1st.  After this date, $20.00.

COMMANDER’S SPECIAL PROJECT –  As of today, we have received $66,552.  Our goal for this year is $100,000.  We are still short $33,447.  Will you please help to spread the word – OUR HOSPITALIZED  VETERANS ARE COUNTING ON US!

 National Convention – August 22 – August 28, 2008

Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa, Phoenix, AZ

Each District Commander, District Adjutant and Department Officer has a copy of the housing, registration, banquet and shirt information. If you are planning to attend and need an application, please contact the Department at 678-289-8883 or one of the officers. All Delegates, alternates, and guests should be furnished this information at your District meeting.

MEMBERSHIP…MEMBERSHIP….MEMBERSHIP!   As of this writing, the Department stands at 88.32% of our goal.  We still need 6,017 members to reach our next target date of May 14, 2008.  If every member of The American Legion would sign just ONE new member, we would exceed our goal.  Have you signed up your new member this year?

Thanks for all you do for THE AMERICAN LEGION.

For God and Country,

Charles R. Knox,

Department Adjutant
