Spring Conference Report.

Macon, Georgia,

17 March 2007

  1. Committee Chair convened the committee for purposes of presentation of two key areas of consideration and discussion.  Avian/Pandemic Flu preparation and the illegal immigration issue.
  2. Avian/Pandemic Flu Preparation. The committee chairman presented the emergency preparedness PowerPoint offered by the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine for use for Servicemen world wide.
    1. See the PowerPoint at http://chppm-www.apgea.army.mil/news/influenzaWebsite/pages/toolbox.htm, under Medical Threat Briefing, Pandemic Influenza.
    2. Leader fact sheet, Flu and Pandemic information brochures from this same web site were distributed, as available to all present.
    3. The Chairman also provided information from the Walton County Avian Flu Awareness program provided by that County’s Local Emergency Planning Group. Of which he is the chief of training.
  3. Illegal Immigration issue: Talking points from the American Legion, Washington Conference, spring 2007 were discussed. Points included:
    1. Why is the Legion involved with this issue? It makes no sense to limit legal immigration while leaving the back door open to illegality.
    2. What does this organization have to do with illegal immigration? We have fought for the safety and freedom of our country. This invasion threatens our national security.
    3. Is the Am. Leg. Opposed to making them legal? Rewarding criminal behavior is not in the best interest of this country
    4. Why not grant one time amnesty? Tried before and didn’t work.
    5. Does the Legion have a solution to this issue? The Legion’ plan is to reduce the illegal population by removing incentives to remain in the country through city, county, state and federal initiatives.
    6. Resolutions from the August 2006 National Convention was provided members as handouts. See these resolutions at: http://www.legion.org/search.php?zoom_query=immigration
  4. Fifty three (53) persons attended the meeting. Including Department Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Treasurer, numerous District Commanders and the leading candidate for National Commander.
  5. Terrorism, the war on terror, Al Qaeda, terror tactics, etc. were also discussed as a final topic.

Respectfully submitted,

For God and Country,

Larry Hoff
